Spring Achievements!

4/29/2019

While Spring has not completely arrived in Chicago weather-wise, we have rolled right into our final quarter of the year here at Advanced Arts.  It's amazing how fast this year has gone, time truly flies when you are having fun.  Our Spring Showcase the final exhibition of our year is less than a month away!  Come on down to Gallery 37 (66 E. Randolph St.) May 22-23 and see performances from our performing arts department at 3pm and 6pm both days.  May 22nd will be the opening of our Visual Arts Exhibition in our 5th Floor Center Space Gallery including an EDIBLE exhibition by our Culinary Arts students.  If you can't make it to opening night the visual exhibition will be up a full week.  We can't wait!

Advanced Arts is proud to announce that we had 13 students make it into the All City High School Visual Arts Exhibition in the newly relocated Chicago Design Museum.
Congratulations to:
Metzli Castilanos, Jasmine Willis, Mya Corral, Victoria Mak, Amber Goodson, Kiara Dominguez, Cameron Gilbert, Aaron Bergante, Mikayla Munoz, Zakkara Caldwell, Dashanti Thomas, Oromo Kenyatta, and Kiernan Francis!

We would also like to extend congratulations to our Vocal Arts student Sydney Jackson, who has won the National Omega Psi Phi Fraternity @OfficialOPPF Talent Hunt! We are so lucky to have such talented young voices here at our school.
Our Vocal department has been very busy, on top of preparing for our Spring Showcase they also have been participating in The American Project with Chicago's Lyric Opera.  Students your FINAL DRESS REHEARSAL is at 20 N. Wacker Drive.  Attendees should check in at the Stage Door at the corner of Washington and Wacker. Participating students must  begin checking in at 11am and the final dress rehearsal begins at 2pm and ends around 4:30pm.
We are so excited to see the culmination of weeks of such hard work from our Vocal Students!

Video Student Kiernan Francis also had his film I am Afraid of the Lights selected for Cinema Chicago's Cineyouth Film Festival at the Music Box Theater.  Kiernan describes his film as "A montage of the day in the life of a high school student, where over-stimulating classroom and social environments lead to feelings of dissociation."  Kiernan's film was shown on Sunday April 28th at 2:45pm as part of the Young Visionaries (Experimental) selections.  We are so proud to see Kiernan's progress as a young filmmaker this year, congratulations Kiernan!
- Until next time.  Stay creative, Chicago
