CineYouth Film Festival Winner

For the second consecutive year, one of our video production students has been a winner at the CineYouth Film Festival.  Both years, students won the Flashpoint Chicago School Award that includes a scholarship. This year Andres Aurelio, won in this category and another, the WTTW Award for his movie, Pilsen, a tribute to his community and their rich culture and traditions. The WTTW Award will provide a paid summer internship for Andres, a second-year student in AAP's Video Production Dual Credit course. Andres graduates this year and will continue his creative journey and passion for making movies that matter in college.

"Created in 2005, Cinema/Chicago’s CineYouth Film Festival is designed to encourage youth filmmakers in their creative endeavors. CineYouth provides opportunities for young filmmakers to articulate themselves artistically, and have their voice heard. Held annually in Chicago, CineYouth is a three-day festival celebrating and fostering the creativity of filmmakers 22 years old and younger by screening officially selected work and encouraging their creative endeavors by presenting a filmmaking workshop, discussions and panels."

Celebrating One of Our Own

Kera MacKenzie, a teacher in our Video Production Dual Credit course is a recipient of a 2018 Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events grant. Because of this award, Kera will be able to complete her movie, Stones for Thunder, a movie she has been working on for almost five years.  The list of grantees is quite impressive and securing a grant is competitive, to say the least.  Kera will be showing her finished film at the Chicago Underground Film Festival this June. We are so proud of her accomplishment!
- Until next time.  Stay creative, Chicago!
