What's new in
Advanced Arts?

Our JAZZ program is ROCKING IT!

3/18/2019

The young men of our jazz program are truly rocking it not only as a trio but as individual musicians.  We here at AAP are so proud of our Jazz students and how they are carrying on the prestige and tradition of this amazing program.  Our ambitious trio most recently competed in the annual UIC Jazz Festival Competition.  The ensemble delivered an outstanding performance showing amazing teamwork and earned a "superior rating" which is the highest performance level attainable!

Another achievement to come out of the UIC Jazz Festival Competition goes to our senior student and upright bassist extraordinaire, Steven Bowman.  Steven will be honored and receive an award at a ceremony on 04/16/19, for best solo performance.  Steven blew the crowd away and we couldn't be more proud of him!

We are also excited to announce that Frank Morrison, senior in our AAP Jazz Ensemble and an amazing percussionist, has been awarded a FULL 4-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP to attend the University of Louisville in KY. He will pursue his degree in music with a concentration in jazz performance. This Louisville program offers extended residencies by leading jazz artists, as well as a continuation of the annual Jazz Week every February, featuring some of the biggest names in the jazz world, concerts, workshops, and clinics.  We are elated that Frank’s years of practice and dedication has resulted in this wonderful scholarship!

Last but certainly not least, are are proud to share that our senior jazz pianist Joseph Powers has been named a 2019 winner of the annual YoungArts competition. Selected from 1000’s of applicants, he’ll gain access to financial, professional, & artistic opportunities from one of the best emerging arts programs around!
Want to see these amazing young men perform together?  Well come on down to our Spring Showcase May 22nd and 23rd!  Our Trio will be performing in the Storefront Theater on the first floor of our building at 66. E. Randolph St.  Performances start at 3pm and 6pm both days.  Come on down, Chicago!

- Until next time.  Stay creative, Chicago!
